A driver of an SUV, which rolled over on a residential street, claimed that she was traveling at the 25-mph speed limit when an oncoming vehicle suddenly turned left across her path, struck her vehicle, and caused it to roll over.
Explico was retained to investigate the incident. Our team of experts conducted an inspection of the incident site and the vehicles. The tire marks and gouge marks on the roadway, the scratch patterns on the SUV, and the collision damage to both vehicles were mapped out. Careful analysis of the physical evidence allowed our team to calculate the speed of the SUV at the initiation of the rollover event, and the speed of both vehicles at the time of the initial collision. A Human Vehicle Environmental (HVE) simulation was also conducted, which produced post-collision results that were consistent with the roadway physical evidence and vehicle rest positions.
Explico’s analysis showed that, when the initial collision occurred, the oncoming vehicle was fully stopped, and the SUV was exceeding the posted speed limit by a significant amount. Had the driver of the SUV been attentive, our team of experts confirmed that she could have easily navigated the roadway without impacting the stopped oncoming vehicle.
