Dr. Perlmutter combines his multi-disciplinary expertise in data science, engineering, and neuroscience to assist clients in solving business and scientific related issues.

Dr. Perlmutter has extensive experience in the planning, collection, analysis, and visualization of data. Through the application of data science techniques, Dr. Perlmutter assists clients in revealing insights from structured and unstructured data including private business databases, publicly available datasets, clinical datasets, forms, self-reported surveys, interview responses, patient assessments, and many types of sensors and instrumentation. Dr. Perlmutter is proficient in the development and application of R software for importing, organizing, analyzing, and visualizing data, and utilizes the R package Shiny for the development of web-based data science applications. Dr. Perlmutter also has significant experience with other engineering and statistical analysis software packages including MATLAB, MiniTab, and IBM SPSS.

Additionally, Dr. Perlmutter had utilized his multi-disciplinary expertise to evaluate postural stability, gait, balance, movement planning, coordination, and reaction time in the analysis of human factors and human performance associated with falls from height, machine guarding, material handling, risk communication, warnings, instructions, slips, trips and falls, construction equipment, confined space-entry, and amusement park attractions. He has also completed analyses of hazards associated with consumer products as well as intellectual property matters related to trade secrets and patents.

Dr. Perlmutter has substantial experience in electromechanical design and fabrication, instrumentation, biophysical signal processing, data acquisition, motion analysis of human movement, and the use of qualitative scales for rating the performance of individuals who have survived a stroke and/or traumatic brain injury.  Further, he has utilized data acquisition hardware/software with force platforms, accelerometers, and load cells to quantify how adults and children interact with products and their environment.

Prior to joining Explico, Dr. Perlmutter was a producer for Deeplocal, consultant for Exponent, co-founder of a healthcare startup, and doctoral researcher at the Neuroimaging and Motor Control Laboratory at Northwestern University where he investigated the neuromechanics of trunk control in post-stroke adults. His doctoral research included working with clinicians and stroke survivors to design and fabricate a novel multi-directional electromechanical device for identifying and quantifying trunk dysfunction.
